Style Do's for the Festive Season

I absolutely love the fall, and the Christmas season. I love fall fashion; coats, boots, scarves... I highly enjoy them all. I wish the weather was like this all year 'round. There's something about wearing coats, boots, scarves, and gloves, that makes people look so much classier and sophisticated. The summer is too casual and laid-back for me. Shorts, tank tops, sandals...umm, no. It's all just too trailer trash looking.

This is your chance to get rid of the hoodies, sneakers, and sweatpants and opt for something girly, fun, and fashionable!
This season, there are so many pretty things you SHOULD be wearing that are classy, sophisticated, and just plain awesome. Another good thing about this season... more holiday get-together's where you will be able to show off your wonderful outfits.

Come on, just take the advice I'm about to give you... you'll be glad you did.. trust me!

1. Sequins

Sequins are SO in at the moment, and I couldn't be happier. I've always loved shiny things, and now is my chance to wear them as much as I can! From tops, to leggings, blazers, and handbags.... forget diamonds, sequins should be every girls best friend!
Wear an outfit that includes sequins and you'll be sure to grab everyone's attention at any social function. Come on, just admit it.. you know they're awesome.

oh yeah... just please don't wear a WHOLE sequined ensemble. Yes, it's your time to shine and have fun, just don't look like a disco ball while doing so (unless you're Lady Gaga).

2. Blazers

Blazers are ....amazing. During the day blazers can be paired with a plain t-shirt, leggings, and flats, for a casual look. In the evening, an outfit can be glammed up by simply switching the flats for heels, and the t-shirt for a sequined top, for example. This is one item I highly recommend, since it can be taken from simple and casual to glam and sophisticated very easily.

3. High-heeled boots

I would have mentioned flat boots for this section as well, but decided to go for high-heeled boots since they tend to look fancier and more sophisticated for a night out in the town. Invest in a good pair of high-heeled boots, and like the blazer, they can be either casual or classy looking depending on what you pair them with. The length doesn't matter. If you, like myself, are short, I recommend going for a higher heel because it not only elongates your legs but also makes an outfit look so much better.

4. Shiny leggings

Shiny leggings are also another huge trend this season. Not everyone is a big fan, but I personally love them. They go with basically anything. Just like the blazer and high-heeled boots, a pair of shiny leggings can take you from a casual Saturday morning shopping look to a Saturday evening at the martini bar look with no effort at all. I have worn them with flat casual boots, and a plaid top during the day, and then high heeled boots with a silk top for an evening out. They are also very comfy, which is a plus!
(The leggings pictured here, as you may have noticed, are not "shiny" leggings, but rather sequined leggings. I just thought they were too awesome not to post).

These are just a few of my tips for what to wear this fall and holiday season. These looks are so versatile... you can be in class, or at a party, wearing these pieces, and you'll be sure to look fabulous!

Model Spotlight: Coco Rocha

Not only is the fabulous Miss Coco Rocha one of my favourite models, she is also one of the world's most sought after models. She is another Canadian that has made it big in the fashion world, and has certainly been one of the world's top supermodels for the past couple of seasons.

Coco was born in Toronto, Ontario, but moved to British Columbia at a young age. She had never thought of becoming a model, but this all changed when she was discovered at the age of 14, during an Irish dance competition. Things started to progress faster for Coco after she was photographed by Steven Meisel for an editorial, along with Gemma Ward and Amanda Moore in 2006. This editorial is what led to her fabulous career since it landed her the cover of the February 2006 issue of Vogue Italia. Soon after, Coco started walking the runways in New York City for designers such as Anna Sui and Marc Jacobs. Paris fashion week soon followed, where she walked for designers such as Christian Lacroix, Emanuel Ungaro, and was chosen by Marc Jacobs to open and close his Louis Vuitton show. Coco's star really started to shine, after Jean Paul Gaultiers Scottish Highlands inspired Fall-Winter 2007 show. Coco opened the show by Irish dancing down the runway, in what would become known as the "Coco Moment".

Just a year after her first experience walking the runways in New York and Paris, Coco was featured in the May 2007 issue of American Vogue, along with fellow models Doutzen Kroes, Caroline Trentini, Raquel Zimmermann, Sasha Pivovarova, Agyness Deyn, Jessica Stam, Hilary Rhoda, Chanel Iman, and Lily Donaldson, as the new supermodels of the world. Now, about 8 seasons later, she is an experienced veteran at walking the runways for top fashion designers in Paris, London, Milan, and New York. She has been featured on countless magazine covers, including Vogue, W, Harper's Bazaar, and has been the face of many advertising campaigns, such as Balenciaga, Chanel, Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, and the Gap.

At only 21 years of age, Coco has quite the impressive resume and is already one of the most experienced models out there. Although Coco Rocha is at the height of her career right now, her star isn't about to fade anytime soon. We will most likely be seeing her walking the runways, and on magazine covers for many years to come!

Look of the Day: Rachel Bilson

I absolutely adore Rachel Bilson. I love her style; casual, but put together, all the while looking while she didn't even try! She's one of my fashion icons, and I could go on and on about her (but I won't....for now!). On November 19th, she was seen leaving a business meeting at the Four Seasons Hotel in Los Angeles, wearing this very cute ensemble. I love the boots! This is a perfect example of looking casual, but not sloppy. To make this look even more casual, the heeled boots can be swapped for flat boots, or a pair of flats...and voila! Pure awesomeness, without looking like you've tried too hard.

R.I.P Daul Kim

This is something very sad to post about, but it just goes to show that the fashion world isn't always as glamorous and perfect as people make it seem. This past Thursday, Daul Kim, a Korean-born international supermodel, was found dead in her Paris apartment. The cause of her death has yet to be confirmed but some sources in the fashion industry say she may have committed suicide. Daul had modelled and walked the runway for many big names in the industry. Her star was on the rise, and she will be missed by many in the modelling and fashion world. R.I.P, Daul Kim.

Fashion No No's

There are SO many heinous things I see people wearing nowadays. Honestly, do some people not look in the mirror before they go out of the house? Now, I'm not perfect, nobody is. I have committed fashion crimes myself in the past, and probably still do from time to time. Fashion is of course art, and what is considered nice, varies from person to person, but come on. Some things I see out there, really?? In honour of all the atrocities out there, this is my list of fashion don'ts!

1. Running shoes as regular everyday footwear

Unless you are going to the gym, or for a run, for the love of GOD do not wear running shoes as part of your everyday ensemble. They do NOT look good with anything, unless being paired with fitness clothing. I cringe everytime I see people committing this crime. Who cares if it's comfortable and casual, there are other ways to be comfy and look casual without running shoes!!!

2. Uggs
Ok I admit, I almost gave in to Uggs, ALMOST. They DO look like they would be very comfortable and cozy, but.... as I said in the previous post, there are other ways to be comfortable and casual without ugly footwear. Another thing is that this trend is WAY overdone. It should have been over two years ago, but it is somehow still going strong.

3. Crocs
This is a trend that should have vanished long ago, even before Uggs should have disappeared. They are hideous, there is no other way to describe them. They DO look like lifejackets for your feet. The worst thing is when they come in BRIGHT colours such as orange.

4. Foam flip flops
Ok, foam flip flops, really? In the summer months, there are so many nice, BETTER looking sandals and flip flops to choose from. There is so much variety in summer footwear, why go for the cheap ones that fall apart after a few uses? I see people buying the cheap Old Navy flip flops, and do not understand for the life of me why they would wear these in public. I had a pair.... for the SHOWER, in residence. Even then, I thought they were ugly.

5. Baggy pants/ loose clothing
no, no, no. Why can't people just look put together? What's SO complicated about it?? This is mostly aimed at guys. I don't want to see your ass hanging out, or your boxers. It is NOT attractive. Loose clothing too, such as giant sweaters or shirts. For God sakes. Again, who cares if it's comfortable or relaxed. Remember...there are other ways to do this!!! Many girls do not find this attractive. If you're a girl and wearing baggy pants or loose clothing...umm?? Need I say more.

6. Cuffed pants
What is the deal with some people and cuffed pants? Is it that complicated to get them hemmed? Especially if you're short, cuffed pants will just make you look more stumpy and short than you already are. no, no, NO.

That is all...for now. I'm sure I will come up with more to add to this list, because there are always people out there who wear things nobody should be seen in. Nobody should fall victim to a fashion crime!

Friday Model Spotlight: Daria Werbowy

Yesterday was renowned supermodel Daria Werbowy's 26th birthday, and she has accomplished more than some models ever do, within those years. Personally, Daria is one of my all time favourite fashion models, and what makes her even more awesome is that she's Canadian too!

Daria was born in Krakow, Poland and her family immigrated to Canada in 1987. They moved to Mississauga, Ontario (near my home!). At the age of fourteen, she won a national modelling contest, but it wasn't until she joined forces with fabulous modelling agent Elmer Olsen that her career really started to take off. Once Elmer Olsen left Elite models, and started his own agency, Daria decided to follow him. Needless to say, this was one of the best decisions of her career. Within a few years, she was a phenomenon on the international modelling scene. She has graced the covers of numerous fashion magazines, and has walked SO many runway shows for practically every huge name in the industry.

Daria holds the record for opening and closing the most shows in one season. To date, Daria has modelled and walked the runway for Lancôme, Prada, Yves Saint Laurent, Pepe Jeans, Roberto Cavalli, Gucci, Hermès, Valentino, David Yurman, Missoni, Versace, Louis Vuitton and Chanel. In Fall/Winter 2003, which was her first season, Daria not only appeared on the cover of Vogue Italia three times (July, August, and October), but also captured one of the fashion world's most coveted campaigns, Prada's Fall/Winter ad campaign.

In July 2007, Forbes listed Daria as the ninth highest-earning model in the world, and just last recently she had the honour of being inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame.

Happy belated birthday to Daria!.... one of the most fabulous models the fashion world has ever seen.

Best Mascara Ever

I am sooo excited about a new makeup find I have made.

This is honestly one of the best mascaras ever! I usually have a hard time finding ones that I like. For example, last fall I think I had about 5 different ones because I couldn't find one that was better than the rest. This summer I thought I had found a good one, until now.

The one I previously thought was excellent was the Telescopic mascara by L'Oreal. It advertised that it would increase eyelash length and it did! One time I even got asked if they were my REAL eyelashes by a complete stranger. awesomeness. Well, just this week I went to the drugstore just to browse and saw that L'Oreal had come out with a new mascara, it's still the Telescopic kind but a different version; Telescopic Explosion mascara. I thought it was cool because of the unique brush. They claimed that it would lengthen, thicken, and seperate your eyelashes and that it would look "fanned out" for a wide-eyed look. I thought ok well how many times have I been tricked by advertising before. Alas...I never learn my lesson and bought it, only to be pleasantly surprised. Everything it claimed to do, it actually does, if you believe it or not. Usually with other mascaras I have had to use my eyelash curler constantly throughout the day. I was thinking hmm maybe it's my eyelash curler that's the problem, and it needs to be replaced. I am fooled no longer. With this mascara I haven't had to use the eyelash curler more than once. It has stayed put all day and my eyelashes look amazing. I have kept touching them throughout the day, because I am just amazed at how well it's holding up (it was even raining today! and I didn't use my umbrella to cover my face!). I highly recommend this mascara, it is pure amazingness.
